This has been a long time in the making, I met Exdol (Junz F Hustle) Powell jr on mysapce. He has a lot of his music on his page, he's also very determined and passionate about his music so I asked him If I could interview him for my blog and he said yes. He will be my first (get your mind out of the guter lol) so I was kinda nervous being that this would be my fist interview and I really didn't know how or where to start. When he arrived he looked like he had already made it... lolol. His swag was on over drive and he has a very cute smile....ladies hmmm, well here we GO.......
MsEfSexy : Hey whats up.
Junz F Hustle : Hey, what's good...... nice to finally meet u.
MsEfSexy : Thank you for coming and being my first interview for my blog.
Junz : No problem, thanks for asking me. I'm always glad to be 1st lol.
Junz : Ok....lets go, let's do it !
MsEfSexy : Well I already know but for those who don't, what is your rapper name?
Junz : Junz F Hustle
MsEfSExy : Why the name "Junz F Hustle"?
Junz : My gov name is Exdol Powell Jr. so the "Junz" is short for Junior and the "F" is for Focus, cause people always say "junior! U always focus" so I put it together and it makes a statement..."Junz is focus on his hustle". Some of my friends don"t like it but I'm sure it much better than "Waka Flocka Flames" lol so I'm good.
MsEfSexy : I concur, What is your nationality?.....Mi hear alttile something in you accent lol.
Junz : Yeah man lol.....I am Jamaican, yuh zeeeit.
MsEfSexy : Ok.... Well growing up listening to Reggae Music, which I know is very captivating how did u make the transition to Rap Music?
Junz : It wasn't really difficult... Because as you may or may not know rap music is derived from reggae music, the beats, the styles are different mainly because of the language. But now its all 1 because we all crossed over and blended the sounds. But I must admit when I first heard Biggie I didn't like his music.
MsEfSexy : Oh really!
Junz : Yeah... At that time, I was only listening to reggae and He was just too raw, I mean I was young so It was quite an adjustment. But it was two Jay-Z songs off his album "In My Life Vol 1" , which I thought was his first album lol. The songs were "The Streets is Watching " and "Where I'm From"....and It was at that time my mind changed and to this day those are still my fav Jigga-man songs. He told a story and It left a lasting impression on me because I could relate to it ......not that I lived in struggle... but I just understand cause it felt so real and the beats was just right, So with that I became motivated and determined to be apart of the industry, developed a love for rap/hip hop and the culture so, I started buying albums , magazines also going to concerts....It became apart of my life.
MsEfSexy : Wow! Ok. So how did u start writing?
Junz : My friends in Jamaica, they use to Dj (Reggae Artist) and it was fun watching them perform and I always use to say to them "mi youth mi ago mek sure uno bus" translation "I'm gonna make sure y'all trun stars" lol. I remember I tried writing a songs(a reggae song) to see what skills I had lol ...but it didn't work out so I gave up. My dream over in 15mins haahah this was like 97.
MsEfSexy : That's crazy
Junz : Yeah But In the summer of 2000 I made up my mind to try again, so I got a notebook and I tried. By the end of that summer I basically finished the book lol,
MsEfSexy : Really?
Junz : Yep!! but only like 1/4 of it was usable lol.
MsEfSexy : lolol your crazy so a 1/4!
Junz : yeah a 1/4 I didn't give up this time, I kept at it and I still remember my first 8 bars from my 1st book. It was a song about me being homesick and missing my friends back in Jamaica lol.
MsEfSexy : What do u think about the music then and now?
Junz : It has changed a lot. Take Drake for example he is a singer/rapper, back in the day that was a myth so that I can say is a huge change. Rappers lyrical content was much better back then and you could actually learn something. But there are still some great rappers out now and the direction that Rap is going today is great...compared to where it was 2 yrs ago lol it was on life support....lol.
MsEfSexy : You have a few tats, which one has the most meaning?
Junz : I have one of the world on my back even though its still not done, it has the most meaning. The world is in a bad shape right now so that's the symbolic way of doing my part everyday when I wake up, I put it on my back and try to make people around me better.
MsEfSexy : The world on your back...... you must have backache lol ?
Junz : everyday, every-night but I'm good! I'm still here grinding.
MsEfSexy : What do u think you could add to the game?
Junz : Well....when I do my songs or whatever I'm working on I am very critical of what makes it to the cd. The hot beat but wack song or vise-versa will not fly with me..... It has to be 100% or not at all. So I"d bring the fire......lol.
MsEfSexy : Do you have any mixtapes out?
Junz : Yes I do, I have one that I did in 2008 Now or Never vol.1 The Change and I'm currently working on one now, No Holds Bar which one will be out by mid to late September.
MsEfSexy : How can people contact you and hear your music?
Junz : To hear my music they can check out www.myspace/junzhustle.com I know its old but whateva and they can follow me on twitter @itsjunz and my email is est1020@gmail.com.
They can hit me up for collaborations or to get a copy of my mixtapes which should be digital soon. I know I'm behind but I'm doin it all myself, and I welcome any feedback negative or positive.
MsEfSexy : Ok, now for my mini quiz.....then the interrogation will be over lol.
Junz : lol its cool ask away... i appreciate any opportunity to let people get to know about me and my music.
